March '10 review

03.03.10

The fibreglass on the radome had gone off so we were able to make a start on it. We did a bit of sanding then one of the lads from the bodyshop came over and asked if we wanted him to do it properly so, we let him crack on with it. It's coming on, hopefully next time it'll be ready for paint.

10.03.10

no further work on the radome since previous visit.

There was a killer wind blowing up there today so working with bare hands was a nightmare, but, Gaz managed to make some new battery contacts for the steps and he got them connected, and to his surprise, THEY WORKED!!

Also did a bit of painting, mainly to practice masking around awkward areas (gonna need to do a lot of that soon!!) It bled a bit under the masking tape, as you can see. Nothing that a bit of turps won't fix. Move your cursor over the image for a before and after effect!

It went better than expected so Gaz is pretty confident about attacking the big "1" on the front, (once we get the paint)

17.03.10

Radome is still where we left it! Really want that done by CWJ so a contingency plan may have to be made.

Progress!

Big step forward today though! We now have AC power: Which is great because it means we can light the cargo hold up without using the battery.

The battery will be saved for the cockpit so we'll get much longer between charges, plus, we can use power tools in there now.

21.03.10

Fantastic day today! Nice weather (Can't say that very often!) LOADS of visitors, including 4 fly ins and a start made on the main livery. It's a slightly different shade to the original, but, it was free and it looks really good.

another set of rollover images to give a comparison (just move your cursor over the image)

and then for a real before and after effect roll your cursor over this image

Got half way round the front with the blue paint today, it's looking really good!
Ian made a start on washing the rest of the livery whilst Gaz followed him with the paint

Here's a before and after, although, it's after and before in this photo
For anyone who's interested. This is a comparison shot of the colours we have chosen for the main livery, versus, the original paint:
