the restoration of Super Guppy F-BTGV

 December '09 review

Wednesday 09-12

Finished off applying red paint to the starboard props and they look a lot nicer now. Will probably need to do the white bits as well, Gaz was hoping that wouldn’t be necessary but now having a re-think

and took some photos of the internal damage to the fuselage with a view to assessing the options to carry out a repair - here's one of the pics:

Gaz had some more good news too. He’s 75% sure we've got a portacabin coming! Which might not sound very exciting but his garage will be relieved! It also means that if/when we get the Guppy moved, it's home will be as permanent as we could hope for.

Sunday 13-12
There was plenty planned but, as Gaz was the only one of the Guppy lads available and everything required at least 2 people, the only thing he did was pick the gust locks up so I can repair them at home. He thought about asking one of the CWJ lads to help but they were busy moving Tina into the hangar.

As soon as someone who can work the cherry picker is available to help we need to get the rudder sorted to stop it flapping in the wind

Wednesday 16-12
Gaz did some work on his own, he did some cleaning, and swept the cargo hold and alsogave the cockpit a wipe down where some water had leaked in. ‘It's really starting to look good inside now, once I've got the dyson up there it'll look the business!’

Gaz’s wife Clare has said she'll re-upholster the seats on the flight deck, so we are now on the scrounge for any hardwearing material (Canvas or corduroy type stuff).

No luck with the cherry picker to date

The Super Guppy now has it's own page on facebook click here to visit

Hopefully I may have a few more bits to add later otherwise we will update you again next month
